Living with the Herd and People at
The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding (RDA)

Welcome to the second edition of my Blog; my oh my, another month has gone by already! Well, there has been a lot of horse whispering amongst the herd and people these past few days in that it is said we have a celebrity in our midst. Standing in my room with my ear to the ground I’m now able to reveal the identity of our celebrity as none other than our Strikey! Who is Strikey you are probably asking? Well, he’s a bit of a looker; a Chestnut Haflinger with flaxen mane, tail and eyelashes. So what’s the lowdown on this turn of events I’m asking myself? I bided my time and with a bit of ear wigging managed to get to the bottom of it all (Pretty handy my room as everyone passes here and they usually stop to chat to one another).

From what I can gather from September the RDA starts celebrations for their 40th Anniversary and have been looking amongst all of the RDA Groups for “The RDA 40th Anniversary Horse or Pony” which had be one with PR appeal as well as having done good work for the organisation. It appears that from over 130 entries nationally our Strikey came out as the overall winner. To enter, the Centre had to send off photographs whilst both helpers and riders had to write with reasons why they thought Strikey should win. The judging reduced the number of contestants to five, with the final decision being made in the USA by a Company called Breyer. From what I can pick up this Company makes Equestrian Models; I guess that means you too may soon be able to have your own Strikey but, in model form only of course. It was they who made the final decision and our Strikey came through; who would think little old Shelley in Suffolk will become world famous through its own Pin up Boy? As you can guess we, the herd, are cocker hoop, although it might bruise a few egos here not that I’m naming names err….. Prince, perhaps Rocky? I must be fair, the People are over the moon too, particularly as I have found out that Shelley has its own celebrations this year in that it will be the 20th Anniversary of The Shelley Centre. In spite of all of the excitement and talk, I don’t think Strikey is too bothered as I can see him from my room happily munching through his hay without the blink of a blond eyelid. I’ll try and keep you up to date on the celebratory events as they arise; nod, nod, wink, wink.

As I was saying…………Ops! Is it that time already? I can see Abigail coming for her session with me so must go; before I do, why not “Click me up” on our Website.  You will be able to visit me there and read this again or why not just look around at what we do; you may like to come and join us? I always like to see a new face.
